OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM

Quality education is the right of every child of the nation. If we talk about Pakistan, quality education holds the key role for betterment of country. Skillful and educated youth can make the country economically, morally and socially strong and worth living. Quality education is not in the access of every child. 22.6 million Children are still out of schools in Pakistan. Government is upgrading the education system but the reality is that, besides trying hard, government education system is not providing the quality education that meets the set standards. Parents always prefer to enroll their children in private schools. Up till now, more than 23.8 million children are studying in 173,110 private schools. As the private schools are the symbols of quality education but these schools demand much more from parents as well as children. First of all, private schools charge heavy money in shape of fee and other miscellaneous funds. Franchise system converts these schools in to commercial entity, where the student is not more than an ATM for the school. If a person having 0.6 million annual incomes and 3 to 4 school going children, more than 40 % of his income goes in the pockets of these commercial entity owners, directly or indirectly. Student has to purchase even note books and pencils from the concerned schools printed school names. Enrolment in these schools is not difficult and schools offers very attention grabbing packages in the shape of discounts in fee and parents enrolled their children in these schools. And here the game starts. Students have to purchase uniform, books, note books, and other stationery items from the school or from the shops that are designated by the school authorities only. Then, unnecessary celebration of different days and children are compelled to wear the dress code for celebration of that day. Here again, parents has to get new clothes for the children. Then, sports fund, transport fund, even maintenance fund is charged from parents. Here the funny thing is those schools which have not even badminton court or table for tennis charge sports fund and they are answerable to none. Private schools are severely damaging the social and cultural norms. Different types of festivals, annual dinners, musical concerts and musical nights are the key reason of decline of morality of children and youth. I remember that sad incident of a private college in Lahore when 3 young girls died and 5 were critically injured during the musical concert. The age of all the students was 17-22 years. The question is… who was the responsible for all that…? Government…..School administration…..or, the parents who allowed their children for that. The question is still is unanswered and buried under tons of soil with those innocent souls. Provincial government banned every type of musical programs in educational institutions but nothing stops, not for a single day, because this is the source of income of private schools and colleges. Here again, these types of gatherings where girls and boys are allowed to enjoy together are the starting point of immorality. Children take more interest in these activities than studies and unable to decide what to do even after high schools. Again, these gathering organized from the pockets of the parents whose children are studying in those schools.                                                                     Private schools offer pre-class or feeder school where children of very small age enrolled. Parents become much busy in their individual lives that they have not enough time for their children. Now the question is….where those children go…? The answer is again…Private schools which are commercial entity more than school. These schools hire untrained staff for those children who really need the attention of the parents. These schools charge heavy dues from parents for handling of their children and the result is…..children become out of control of the parents and become aggressive. Then parents complained that their child is not in control of ours but the time is gone. Here the question arises from the parents is……how much attention a strange and untrained lady can give to your child when she is handling number of children at the same time and if you have not much time for your own child then why anyone else do that for you….? That lady who spent time with your child is hired on wages and she would definitely just pass the preset time and she has no concern with the future of your child. But these schools give the lollypop of character building and personality grooming to the parents and the parents sucks that with full satisfaction.        This education system is not able to produce the great minds because we are still following the system that of twentieth century. Child of today’s era has no social life. The main reason of this is the heavy burden that put on his shoulder by parents and school. A child who should be free from every thought and depression of world and for whom the greatest enjoyment should be the quality time that should spend with the parents started revolving around school, academy, school work and academy work. The innocent child whose mind is still in early stage of learning starts worried about school and academy, punishment and insult etc. A bag full of books, note books and activity books, is hanged on his shoulder and then he/she   never get out of that burden. His day start with the confusion either he/she should go to school or to make any excuse for a single day off. Here ,he/she learns to make lame excuses. The only reason is that burden and load which is put on his head by parents and school. Then school doesn’t judge his intellectual level and intelligence but the memory, that he/she should remember the lesson word by word. No one allows him to think in his/her own way. No one asks his choice and interest because the school needs money and parents’ needs grades and innocent child suffer in this trade. Resultantly, we lose a great scholar, scientist, leader, sportsman, researcher of the future.
