First Hogia Sophia was the Church which was named as Church of the Holy Wisdom. The church was first built by Constantine I in 325 on the fundamentals of a pagan temple. After that his son, Constantius II, redesign it in 360. It was dented in 404 by a fire that exploded during a disturbance following the second deportation of St. John Chrysostom, then father of Constantinople. It was reconstructed and enlarged by the Roman emperor Constans I. The re-established building was rededicated in 415 by Theodosius II. The church was blackened again in the Nika insurrection of January 532, a circumstance that gave Justinian I a chance to visualize an impressive replacement.

The building now standing is essentially the 6th-century association, although due to earthquake, a limited collapse of the dome in 558 (rebuilt 562) and also there were two further limited collapses, after which it was reconstruct to a minor scale and the entire church reinforced from the exterior side. It was re-established again in the mid-14th century. For more than era it was the Cathedral of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. It was looted in 1204 by the Venetians and the Crusaders on the Fourth Crusade.

Hagia Sophia Mosque:

After the Turkish Victory of Istanbul, Turkey in 1453, Mehmed II re-planned it as a mosque, with the adding of a wooden minaret (on the exterior, a tower used for the summons to prayer), a great chandelier, a mihrab (position representing the direction of Mecca), and a minbar (pulpit). Either he or his son Bayezid II established the red minaret that stands on the southeast corner of the building. The unique wooden minaret did not continue. Bayezid II established the narrow white minaret on the northeast side of the mosque. The two matching minarets on the western side were probably specially made by Selim II or Murad III and construct by famous Ottoman architect Sinan in the 1500s.

In 1934 Turkish President Kemal Atatürk change the purpose of the building and in 1935 it was converted into Museum. Art historiographers consider the building’s beautiful variety of the art to be the main basis of knowledge about the state of art in the time soon after the conclusion of the Iconoclastic Controversy in the 8th and 9th centuries. The Hagia Sophia is a part of a UNESCO World Heritage site called the Historic Areas of Istanbul (designated 1985), which includes that city’s other major historic buildings and locations.

Hagia Sophia Back Into Mosque:

After the recent orders of Turkish Court which convert the status of Hagia Sophia Museum in Hagia Sophia Mosque. Turkish court annulled the 1934 presidential orders that made it Museum. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has signed the orders of conversion on Hagia Sophia Museum into Hagia Sophia Mosque. The Mosque will be open for Friday prayers on 24th July 2020.
