ATTITUDE KNOWLEDGE EPIDEMICS OF AIDS HIV AND ITS CURRENT SCENARIO IN PAKISTAN

AIDS is known as acquired immune-deficiency syndrome. AIDS causes by HIV (Human immune-deficiency virus). In this disease the whole immune system of the body destroys and unable to defend any foreign invader. HIV is a virus that attacks on the cells of human body that are responsible for immunity i.e. T-cells. When these cells are dead that are responsible for giving immunity in human body then body is unable to withstand in case of any attack of disease. HIV spreads by transfer of semen, blood and breast milk. HIV/AIDS threat is increasing in Pakistan day by day due to high risk practices, low awareness about HIV/ AIDS and double crossing blood transfusion practices. Most of the risk of HIV/ AIDS is transfer from India because Pakistan shares its border with India. National and International organization warn that there will be more bad situation in Pakistan regarding HIV/ AIDS in near future.
The symptoms of HIV/ AIDS are:
- Persistent diarrhea,
- Chronic fatigue,
- Rapid weight loss,
- shortness of breath,
- night sweats,
- Lesions in the mouth and nose and may be under the skin.
CAUSES OF HIV/AIDS:
AIDS/HIV is a disease that is caused by many causing factors which are:
- Breast milk,
- Infected syringes,
- Semen, vaginal fluid,
- During tattoo making
- And during sex.
BEHVAIOR OF PEOPLE IN PAKISTAN AGANIST ADIS/HIV:
In our community people are very less aware about causes and prevention of sexually transmitted infections. People don’t consider themselves at risk. They believe that these diseases are common in people who have homosexual relations. People don’t like to share such health problems and they like to visits Hakims and quacks. The patients of AIDS/HIV don’t like to visit hospitals due to community reaction and lack of any specialist treatment.
REHABILITATION CENTERS OF HIV/AIDS IN PAKISTAN:
Up till know there are four treatment centers have been setup in Pakistan in Islamabad, Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi. The aim of these centers is to provide treatment to 8000 infected people. In every center about 100 patients have been registered. Dr and nurses trained in India providing facilities in these centers.
Medicines used for treatment of HIV/ AIDS have three types of effect which are antiviral effect, Immune modulator effect and habitat destruction drugs. Purpose of these three effects is to stop the activity of HIV virus. Some medicines that are commonly used for the treatment of AIDS/HIV are Tenofovir (TDF), Lamivudine (3TC), and Efavirenz (EFV). These medicines are given to the patients only to reduce the HIV virus in the human body so that patient may feel some relief. Other way there is no treatment for AIDS/HIV. Patients of AIDS/HIV are advised to the lemon juice because lemon juice has ability to kill the human immune-deficiency virus.
TEST FOR DECTECTION OF HIV/ AIDS:
Now-a-days treatments and diagnostic tests for number of diseases have been developed with the revolution in medical field. Similarly, there are number of tests are available for diagnosis of AIDS. Diagnostic tests that are in use now-a-days for the diagnosis of AIDS/HIV are:
- ELFA test
- ELIZA test
- Ag/ Ab test
- Rapid test
- Ora quick test
COST FOR TREATMENT OF HIV/AIDS:
Cost of generic treatment is 300-500$ yearly for a patient. HIV RT-PCR qualitative test lab cost 54,000 in Pakistan.
DEATHS DUE TO HIV/AIDS IN PAKISTAN:
