When the Syrian civil war started in 2011, America decided to support rebels against Assad. Of course, USA was having some political and strategic interests. America wanted Assad to step down not for the sake of Syrian people but for its business in the region. As one of the American state department officials said that “Once the behavior changes, once we have the Assad regime step down, we will make good on making sure this is an environment where Americans can do business” (Erlich, 2014). In Syria by using name of “war on terror”, America is finding ways for its economy. “Most of the NSA’s spying on foreign leaders had nothing to do with suspected terrorism but focused on finding commercial advantage for US corporations” (Erlich, 2014) . Here, NSA stands for “National Security Administration”. America wanted to see Middle East a democracy. “The United States should throw its support firmly behind the forces of change in the region. It should align itself squarely with those Arab democrats seeking to build more just, participatory, and accountable political systems” (Abrams, 2017). Fighting with ISIS is one of the main interests of USA in Syria as Trump in 2017 tweeted that other than killing ISIS, US has very little to do with Syria. Distortion of Irani and Lebanese based Shi’ites influence from Syria is also USA’s interest because it is a threat for Israel (Scanders, 2019).

American purposeful involvement in Syrian politics is not so simple phenomenon. “After the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and the destruction of Libya, Syria was to be the next state overthrown. Washington and its regional allies had planned this for some time. This was all part of Washington’s plan for a ‘New Middle East’” (Anderson, 2016). USA wanted the Middle Eastern region to be weak and divided. So, the strengthening and cooperating ties among Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine was the representation of regional challenge to America” (Anderson, 2016). That’s why Syria was destined to be the prey of USA’s greed. USA provided huge aid in the name of “war on terror” to destroy the world and humanity. In Syria “the Obama administration had provided $100 million for salaries and equipment to the SNC as of April 2012” (Erlich, 2014) . USA is an experienced power of waging dirty and covert wars in the name of proxy war as it did in Central America (e.g. El Salvador and Nicaragua), in Africa (e.g. Zaire and Angola) and in the Middle East (e.g. Afghanistan) so the Middle East is not a difficult playground for such a country (Anderson, 2016).

“The United States has considered the Middle East critical since the first oil fields began pumping in Iraq in 1927” (Erlich, 2014). So, its American national interest to protect these oil supplies and the profits, it generates from these oil stocks. America never mentioned and can never mention about their interest in profit. It always shows that it is keen to protect the Middle East from outside powers who keeps their bad eye on region’s oil supplies.

Syria is not a mineral land and its oil production is also little relative to other Middle Eastern countries. Also, It lack in important seaports or military bases

Syria borders Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan. Many occupations of the region run only because of Syria. So, the person who holds power in Syria keeps significant and long-term impact on the region (Erlich, 2014).
